Illicit drug use in Reykjavik by wastewater-based epidemiology

چکیده
Estimation of illicit drug use on a community level by wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is both an objective and reliable way to establish near real-time results. Wastewater samples were collected at eleven timepoints in Reykjavik from 2017 2020. The commonly abused drugs Iceland (amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), cocaine, cannabis) was estimated. Solid phase extraction ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled tandem mass spectrometry used for analysis. Estimated amphetamine methamphetamine showed signs increase 2020 with being the dominant stimulant market. MDMA remained stable Results large cocaine 2019 but interestingly, marked decrease during COVID-19 pandemic. Cannabis pandemic WBE corresponded data based two other indicators use, seizure driving under influence cases. Both temporal spatial trends successfully estimated using WBE, complimenting which provided comprehensive picture abuse Reykjavik.

Explaining socioeconomic inequalities in illicit drug use disorders in Iran
Background: Drug use disorders are one of the major health problems in societies, which cause physical, psychological, and social damages to individuals. Socioeconomic status is often inversely associated with drug use disorders. The present study aimed at determining the effect of socioeconomic inequality on the prevalence of drug use disorders and identifying its determinants in Iran. ...

AIMS To perform wastewater analyses to assess spatial differences and temporal changes of illicit drug use in a large European population. DESIGN Analyses of raw wastewater over a 1-week period in 2012 and 2013. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Catchment areas of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) across Europe, as follows: 2012: 25 WWTPs in 11 countries (23 cities, total population 11.50 million)...
متن کاملAn analysis of ethical issues in using wastewater analysis to monitor illicit drug use.
AIMS To discuss ethical issues that may arise in using WWA to monitor illicit drug use in the general population and in entertainment precincts, prisons, schools and work-places. METHOD Review current applications of WWA and identify ethical and social issues that may be raised with current and projected future uses of this method. RESULTS Wastewater analysis (WWA) of drug residues is a pro...
متن کاملEstimation of illicit drug use in the main cities of Colombia by means of urban wastewater analysis.
Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) relies on the principle that traces of compounds, which a population is exposed to or consume, are excreted unchanged or as metabolites in urine and/or feces, and ultimately end up in the sewer network. Measuring target metabolic residues i.e. biomarkers in raw urban wastewater allows identifying the exposure or use of substances of interest in a community. U...
